About the Prebys Center

History

In 2009, San Diego developer Conrad Prebys recognized the critical importance of the drug discovery capabilities at Sanford-Burnham. Prebys had recently lost several close friends to cancer and wanted to have a dramatic impact on the research. His $10 million gift to name Sanford-Burnham's center for chemical genomics will have a lasting impact on the Institute and the field of chemical genomics.

Mission

The mission of the Prebys Center is to enable the development of a pipeline of drugs to treat unmet medical need based on discoveries made by Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute investigators and their collaborators.

Government Sponsored Programs

As part of this mission, the Prebys Center are major participants in two NIH-funded programs. CPCCG is 1 of 4 national comprehensive centers in the Molecular Libraries Probe Production Centers Network (MLPCN). CPCCG is also 1 of 5 comprehensive centers in the NCI’s Drug Discovery and Development Program (CBC Initiative). Through these two programs, Sanford-Burnham and external Principal Investigators can access CPCCG capabilities through the funding provided by these programs.
