Shabnam Vahidpour's Research Focus

Shabnam is interested in understanding molecular mechanisms underlying protein folding in Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) by mainly focusing on factor VIII. The deficiency of coagulation factor VIII results in Hemophilia A, an inherited X-chromosome linked bleeding disorder. Factor VIII is a large plasma glycoprotein that aggregates in the ER after it becomes synthesized. This characteristic makes it a good model for studying Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) in mammalian cells.
