Jochen Maurer's Research Focus
Certain types of breast cancer seem to harbor cancer stem cells which are the driving force behind tumor growth and potentially metastasis. Our research is focused on isolating these cells from primary patients tumors and to understand what influences their growth and differentiation. We want to identify pharmaceutically active compounds that would switch the cancer stem cells from a proliferative tumorigenic fate to a differentiated benign one.
