Life in Orlando

Welcome to Orlando, the City Beautiful

When Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute announced in August 2006 that it would build its East Coast facility in Orlando’s Lake Nona, it marked a victory for an unprecedented partnership and a milestone in Central Florida’s history.

Neighborhoods

Orlando’s neighborhoods offer an intimate glimpse of the city’s past, present and future. You can experience quaint southern charm and tree-shaded cobblestone streets just a few miles from downtown Orlando, where an urban renaissance has led to the development of condo towers offering great views.

Lake Nona

Sanford-Burnham’s campus is located in Lake Nona, 30 minutes to the south of downtown Orlando and adjacent to Orlando International Airport. Lake Nona is home to Medical City, a health and life sciences cluster with research, clinical and educational facilities. Other Lake Nona Medical City organizations include the University of Central Florida Health Sciences Campus, MD Anderson Orlando Cancer Research Institute (CRI), Nemours Children’s Hospital, University of Florida Academic and Research Center, and a VA Medical Center that will be the national training and planning headquarters for the VA’s new medical simulation technology.

Climate

Orlando residents enjoy a tropical climate with an abundance of year-round sunshine. During the winter months, December to February, the average daytime high is 70 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight temperatures drop to a pleasant 50 degrees. The summer months bring moderate rainfall and warmer temperatures.
