Burnham Institute for Medical Research Names Senior Vice President, External Affairs
LA JOLLA, Calif. , November 28, 2005
The Burnham Institute announced today the appointment of Blair T. Blum as Senior Vice President, External Affairs. Ms. Blum will manage the Institute’s private fundraising, which supports more than 500 scientists dedicated to medical research on cancer, diseases of the nervous system, and infectious and inflammatory diseases.
“Blair Blum is a pillar in the San Diego’s philanthropic community,” said President and CEO Dr. John C. Reed. “We are most fortunate to attract her to the Burnham. We will rely on her greatly to help us meet our fundraising challenges.”
Ms. Blum joins the Institute from San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care where she has dedicated over 15 years of professional service, most recently as Vice President and as CEO of San Diego Hospice Foundation since 1996. Ms. Blum also served as Director of Development at La Jolla Country Day School for two years.
Blair Blum is a nationally-recognized leader in hospice and palliative care. She has served on the Board of the California Hospice Foundation, and, locally, in 2000, she founded the San Diego Coalition on End-of-Life-Care, serving as Chairman for two years. Ms. Blum has served as a Board member and President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and, in 2001, was honored by this organization as “Outstanding Development Professional of the Year”. In 1999, Ms. Blum was recognized with the TWIN award sponsored by the San Diego YMCA. Ms. Blum is an active member of the Rotary Club of La Jolla, where she has served on the Board and as President.
