Burnham Institute for Medical Research Appoints Floridians to Board of Trustees

ORLANDO, Fla. , October 10, 2008

The trustees of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research (Burnham) approved the appointment of two additional Floridians to the Board of Trustees at their September board meeting. Jim Jardon and Al Weiss join Robert Mandell as board members, bringing the total number of Florida representatives on the board to three. Burnham has operations in La Jolla and Santa Barbara, California, in addition to the growing Orlando organization.

Jim Jardon is president and chief executive officer of JHT, Inc., headquartered in the Central Florida Research Park, Orlando, Florida. JHT, Inc. is a privately held company with more than 500 employees nationwide. Mr. Jardon oversees company operations including custom computer and web-based training systems, specialized services to federal agencies, and construction.

Mr. Jardon is a Florida native and a retired Air Force veteran. Upon his military retirement in 1985, he joined SYSCON Corporation in Orlando. He co-founded JHT in 1990. Jardon received a M.A. in Management from the University of Nebraska and a B.A. in Arts and Sciences from the University of Florida. Mr. Jardon serves on the board of Kid’s House in Seminole County, Florida and is a past Chairman of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando. He has been recognized with an Enterprising Veteran Award by the Department of Veterans Affairs and under his leadership JHT has received numerous small business and minority owned business awards and honors.

Al Weiss serves as president of worldwide operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. He is responsible for operations at the company’s theme parks and resorts spanning three continents and including the Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Resort Paris. He also oversees Disney Cruise Line and Disney Vacation Club. He began his 36-year Disney career in 1972 as an hourly Cast Member and was named president of the Walt Disney World Resort in 1994 and the top operations leader for Disney’s worldwide vacation destinations in 2005.

Mr. Weiss is an active community leader, serving on the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, the Florida Council of 100 Board of Directors, the SunTrust Bank Central Florida Board of Directors, the Orange County Minority/Women Business Enterprise Alliance and the UCF Board of Trustees. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and received his MBA from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Mr. Weiss has been designated as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Central Florida, and both schools have inducted him into their Halls of Fame.

Mr. Robert Mandell has been a Burnham board member since 2007. Mr. Mandell, an avid supporter of the arts and sciences, is also involved in several capacities in state and regional governments. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Florida Hospital. He received B.S. and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Florida and is also a Harvard Business School graduate.
