Transdisciplinary Training in Cancer Biology

Sanford-Burnham’s NCI-designated Cancer Center has offered transdisciplinary postdoctoral training positions since 2008.

Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute is home to a NCI-designated Cancer Center that focuses on basic and translational aspects of cancer research. The center also offers transdisciplinary postdoctoral training opportunities in cancer biology.

Our transdisciplinary training program is a two-pronged process that interfaces a basic research component with advanced technological disciplines in one of the core facilities at Sanford-Burnham to enable trainees to better understand and more effectively address critical problems in cancer research. The first component of the training program exposes trainees to hypothesis-driven basic research in the areas of signal transduction, apoptosis and cell death, cell adhesion and extracellular matrix, and cancer genetics and epigenetics. The second component extends the basic research project into one or more technological disciplines, including chemical biology and drug discovery, genomics technologies, proteomics, bioinformatics and systems biology, structural biology, and stem cell research.

Trainees selected for this program join a collegial, collaborative environment and work with researchers who embrace an approach to cancer research that incorporates diverse areas of expertise.

These postdoctoral positions are open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a M.D. or Ph.D. and fewer than five years postdoctoral experience in molecular, cellular, or chemical biology. Underrepresented minority candidates and individuals with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
